THE KITTIWAKE TRUST

MULTILINGUAL LIBRARY

We run a Multilingual Library where we have over 145 languages and dialects and around 23,500 books. We were closed for two and a half years following the end of our tenancy in Eldon Garden.. We opened again on 1 August 2023 at our new location in Gateshead, opposite the register office of the Civic Centre. The building is the former Gloucester pub,  High West Street, Gateshead NE8 1EJ. or find Kittiwake Trust Multilingual Library  on Google maps.

As an independent library we charge an annual membership fee of £5 – free for refugees and asylum applicants.

Our Multilingual Library was the first in the North East to be awarded the title of Library of Sanctuary.

Our Patron, Professor David Crystal, wrote

"I know of no comparable publicly accessible library anywhere in the world. It is an initiative that needs to be imitated in as many places as possible."
